
Pamela Weiss, MD, MSCE is an academic board-certified pediatric rheumatologist with advanced training in clinical epidemiology. Her research focuses on patient-oriented investigations in children with inflammatory arthritis, including spondyloarthritis (SpA), psoriatic arthritis, and inflammatory bowel disease-associated arthritis. The overarching goal of her research program is to improve outcomes by accelerating diagnosis, emphasizing meaningful and patient-centered endpoints, and advancing approaches to precision medicine. Dr. Weiss serves as the Director of Clinical Research in the Division of Rheumatology at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia and is a recognized expert in the care of children with arthritis. Her areas of research expertise include epidemiology, pharmacoepidemiology, biostatistical methods for observational studies, and clinical trials.
Her contributions include the development of tools to assess disease activity in juvenile SpA, such as the Juvenile Spondyloarthritis Disease Activity Index (JSpADA), the Juvenile SpA Flare Outcome (JSpAflare), and MRI-based criteria for sacroiliac joint inflammation and structural damage. She also led the development and validation of classification criteria for axial involvement in juvenile SpA. Dr. Weiss’s work has been nationally recognized through numerous honors, including the Spondylitis Association of America Bruckel Young Investigator Award (2014), the American College of Rheumatology (ACR) Henry Kunkel Young Investigator Award (2020), and the ACR Excellence in Investigative Mentoring Award (2025).
