"The GRADE Approach to Assess the Certainty of the Evidence and Grade the Strength of Recommendations"Alonso Carrasco-Labra, DDS., M.Sc., PhDAssociate ProfessorDepartment of Preventive and Restorative SciencesCenter for Integrative Global Oral HealthUniversity of Pennsylvania, School of Dental Medicine Dr. Alonso Carrasco-Labra, D.D.S., M.Sc., Ph.D., is an associate professor at the Department of Preventive and Restorative Sciences and the Center for Integrative Global Oral Health at the School of Dental Medicine, University of Pennsylvania. He received his D.D.S. from the Faculty of Dentistry, University of Chile. He has completed his master's in clinical epidemiology and a Ph.D. in health research methodology at McMaster University, in Canada, under the supervision and mentorship of Professor Gordon Guyatt. He has served as clinical practice guideline and policy methodologist for the Pan-American Health Organization/World Health Organization (PAHO), the World Bank, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the American Gastroenterological Association (AGA), as well as the governments and healthcare agencies in Saudi Arabia, Spain, United Kingdome, Canada, Colombia, Dominican Republic, Peru, Chile, and other ministries of health worldwide. He also led the Department of Evidence Synthesis & Translation Research at the American Dental Association Science and Research Institute (ADASRI). He has authored and co-authored more than 100 articles published in peer-reviewed journals in medicine and dentistry and ten books and handbooks for practicing evidence-based medicine and research, including the "Users' Guide to the Medical Literature" published by the Journal of the American Medical Association(JAMA) (3rd edition), the book "How to Use Evidence-Based Dental Practices to Improve Your Clinical Decision-Making" published by the American Dental Association in 2020, and the Cochrane Handbook for conducting systematic reviews.
