How can we answer and anticipate the pressing health issues we face together as a society? At the CCEB we rise to that challenge through research and training in epidemiology and in biostatistics. We solve problems facing patients and populations. Team science has always been our strength. What those teams look like in practice varies with the challenge at hand, be it a disease in one of the body’s major systems or a threat such as gun violence.
We have long been known as an innovative community where experts from all across the Perelman School of Medicine (PSOM) gather to investigate the central questions of epidemiology and of population science in general. Who suffers a given health problem, and how often does it occur? What causes it; how can we treat it or prevent it? What is the prognosis for patients, what will treatment cost—and what do these facts imply for health policy? Biostatistical expertise, in conjunction with sophisticated epidemiological study design, ensures that we make valid inferences about these relationships.
As part of a leading U.S. school of medicine, we’re ideally positioned to incorporate the study of healthcare delivery into research on prevention and disease management. Through our renowned Master of Science in Clinical Epidemiology program, we train already-accomplished clinicians to study those connections. Because of our close relationship to the distinctive Department of Biostatistics, Epidemiology and Informatics, we have access to top research and education in the basic sciences that underlie our work. And given our deep expertise in team science, we lead many large-scale national research projects and consult on clinical research throughout the PSOM.
