Are Women “Donating” Their Eggs for Money in This Tight Economy?

MARCH 4, 2009

While some may hit the pawn shops, are other women offering to donate their eggs to infertile couples as a means of making extra cash during these economically tight times? Kurt T. Barnhart, MD, MSCE, Associate Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology and Epidemiology, Director of Clinical Research for the Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology, and Associate Director, Penn Fertility Care, was interviewed on this topic on KYW News Radio. According to Dr. Barnhart, Penn does not believe in the process of women strictly selling their eggs for profit and believe we're entering a partnership with women to allow a wonderful gift to help infertile couples.
