Panel Set to Study Safety of Electronic Health Data
DECEMBER 14, 2010
Taking a fresh look at such concerns about electronic health data, the Institute of Medicine created the Committee on Patient Safety and Health Information Technology to run a year-long study and issue recommendations. The 16-member panel is meeting for the first time on Tuesday in Washington. Ross Koppel, PhD, Adjunct Professor of Sociology and Affiliate Member, Center for Clinical Epidemiology and Biostatistics, comments about medical error data in a New York Times article about the IOM panel: "We probably catch about 2 percent of the errors. The errors are the 98 percent that got through."
