Antibiotics for Viral Respiratory Infections in Hospital Decried

An article in Bloomberg BusinessWeek highlights new research conducted by Infectious Disease physicians Kevin Shiley, MD, Ebbing Lautenbach, MD, and Ingi Lee, MD finding that doctors frequently misuse antibiotics when treating patients hospitalized with respiratory tract infections. Their study was published in the November issue of Infection Control and Hospital Epidemiology. Neil Fishman, MD director of Healthcare Epidemiology, Infection Prevention & Control, is also quoted in the story.
