Judith A. Anesi, MD, MSCE

Assistant Professor of Medicine and Epidemiology

Dr. Anesi is an infectious diseases physician and clinical epidemiologist whose research focuses on the clinical and molecular epidemiology of bacterial infections among solid organ transplant recipients. She has particular expertise in donor-derived bacterial infections and multidrug-resistant organisms (MDROs), such as extended-spectrum beta-lactamase (ESBL)-producing and carbapenem-resistant Enterobacterales infections. Dr. Anesi’s work has led to several publications delineating the risk factors for MDROs among organ donors and their impact on organ utilization and transplant recipient outcomes in the US. She is the recipient of federal grants from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the National Institutes of Health (NIH), and the Antibacterial Resistance Leadership Group (ARLG), including a Career Development Award (K01) from the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), which is focused on determining the impact of donor bacterial infections and colonization on solid organ transplant recipient outcomes. Dr. Anesi’s long-term goal is to improve organ utilization and infectious outcomes among solid organ transplant recipients.
